Tambuli/Tambli is an everyday dish eaten in Costal Karnataka & Malnad regions. Its a very simple raita like dish that can be prepared with minimal ingredients & has numerous health benefits. Rice, Saaru & a little bit of Tambli on the side is comfort food at its best
My favorite Tambuli is the one made with Doddapatre/Ajwain Leaves. It can also be made with Malabar Spinach, Ginger, Gooseberry, Kokum & so many other ingredients
I had quite a bit of Raw Turmeric left & I made Tambuli with it. Though, Raw turmeric is a bit of an acquired taste, this tasted good & not to mention its numerous health benefits
Raw Turmeric is sautéed here to get rid of the bitterness before grinding them. Also, Black Pepper helps in the absorption of Turmeric. Which is why we also add a pinch of black pepper in Turmeric Milk/Haldi Doodh. Our ancestors were smart, weren't they?
