An easy Tambli made with Malabar Spinach/Basale Soppu (ಬಸಳೆ ಸೊಪ್ಪು) This is one of the recipes I reach out for when I want to include some greens in a meal without spending too much time
Serves 2-3
You Will Need:
- Half a bunch of Malabar Spinach/Basale Soppu
- 1 cup Curds
- 3 tablespoon grated Coconut
- 1.2 teaspoon Jeera/Cumin Seeds
- 10-12 Black Peppercorns
- 2 Green Chilies
- Salt as per taste
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
To Temper
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- 2 Broken Dry Red Chilies
- 3-4 Curry Leaves
HOW TO:
Chop the Leaves. Chop the stems too. Put it in a colander & clean under running water & set it aside to drain.
In a pot, heat 1/2 cup of water, add the chopped Malabar spinach leaves & let it cook for 5 minutes. Drain excess water & reserve it for later use
Heat half teaspoon of ghee in a pan & on low flame, fry Cumin, Black Peppercorns & Green Chilies for a minute until the cumin is fragrant, Transfer it into the Mixie Jar
Add 3 tablespoons of grated coconut & adding a little bit of water, grind into a smooth paste along with cooked Malabar Spinach
Transfer into a bowl, add salt & Curds, 1/2 cup water that was reserved & whisk
Temper with mustard seeds, Dry Red Chilies & Curry Leaves
Serve with Hot steamed Rice
